I've also always subscribed to the theory that Batman would take Superman, but it obviously had to be based upon superior intellect. The above picture highlights this: Batman is wearing the kryptonite ring which Superman trusted him to keep safe in the batcave. Cheap and dirty? Perhaps. But then again, so is laser vision and wind breath.
There's this funny "batman vs superman" website where people leave their opinions on who would win this epic battle. I especially liked this one guy's comment:
"Batman would do whatever it requires to take someone down. Superman, on the other hand would be searching his little girl-scout soul up at the Fortress of Solitude for a week before he could take any real action."
