So, after watching the excellent show "Breaking Bad" the other day, in which they briefly discuss FunYuns, I got a hankering to eat some.As expected, they were delicious. However, the next day in the store, I noticed an "off-brand" called "Randolph's" that made a similar-looking snack called "OnYums." AND, for the same price as a bag of FunYuns, the bag was 0.75 ounces larger. I decided to give it a shot.
OnYums are no FunYuns. They don't have that perfect FunYun texture, and they taste, well, like onion-flavored potato things. Which is what they are.
Don't get me wrong: OnYums, in their own right, are not bad. BUT: if you are craving FunYuns, OnYums are NOT an acceptable substitute. You have been warned.

I love Red Robbin's cowboy sauce they serve with their onion ring towers.
As an addendum: I also (today) tried Burger King brand "onion ring snacks" and I have to say, they probably have the best all-around flavor between them and FunYuns and OnYums. One glance at the ingredients list quickly explained why: M-S-G
MSG = mouth savoring goodness
FunYuns suck compared to OnYums. The texture issue first. FunYuns are hard and smooth, they are made of corn meal. OnYums have a rough texture but not as hard ad FunYuns. My pick OnYums on texture. FynYuns lack onion flavor. OnYums rock and are bursting with flavor. This was my first bag of OnYums and have to say they will be my brand of choice from now on. I loved them so much I ate an 8oz bag in one setting, I could NOT put the things down they taste so good. Both proucts are made from coen meal, OnYums do have potato flakes listed as an ingredent but not the main one.
Funyuns suck! Plain and simple, sure I can eat funyuns but they get sickening real fast. Funyuns are just too hard and lack in flavor. I discovered onyums about a year ago, I was pleasantly surprised how good they are. They have alot more flavor than funyuns. So winner is onyums hands down!
I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the sweet barbeque OnYums the other day. Very tasty.
Actually I'm pretty sure OnYums were first... Funyuns are the knock off by frito lay invented in Arlington texas...
On the package the brand is clearly "Rudolph's," not "Randolph's."
The Wikipedia article says OnYums were first. However, the article also uses your blog post as a reference source...hopefully only for the photo of the package.

Although I'm not sure where anyone got the idea that I said OnYums were a FunYuns knock-off or that FunYuns came first. Perhaps because I referred to them as an "off-brand"?
Either way, both are delicious in their own right, but I maintain that a FunYuns craving cannot be fulfilled by OnYums.
